Software Application: Pagemaker. Beginners course using the Macintosh which is ideal for Graphic Designer working in print media. MacOS, network communications, scanning, color printing basics are taught.
COURSE OUTLINE:
SPEED BUILDING PROCEDURES USING HOT KEYS AND SHORTCUTS. Five new hot keys given and tested each week in keyboard commands quiz.
PAGEMAKER AS A LAYOUT APPLICATION
A. FAMOUS QUOTE OR PASSAGE, ILLUMINATED AND DESIGNED
Importing scanned images, artwork. Using the text wrap feature, tabs, indents, spellck.
Illustrator as the imported application: Drop caps explored, design using text.
B. MAGAZINE LAYOUT PROJECT: Nordstrom Ad
Pagemaker as the layout application: Importing images,Columns, Setting tabs, text wraps
Key selling points in retail graphics, discussion of logo use, brand name recognition

C. CD COVER and DISC LAYOUT
Pagemaker layout templates: CD example. Tight specs due to packaging parameters.
Imported logo illustrations and special effects from other applications.
Jewel case presentation as desirable portfolio piece
D. SERVICE BUREAU FORM AS A LEARNING GUIDE. GETTING THE DOCUMENT TO PRESS.
Discover what the printing specific categories mean on the service bureau form.
4-Color Separations, line screen vs. dots per inch, trapping, press proofs.
Explore use of Rules, Baselines, Tabs, Check boxes, exacting specifications.
